The Fakes!

Would the real Danboard please stand up!!!

How can you tell the difference between a real and fake Danbo when you are buying them from the internet? The quick answer is it is not easy!!! Models like the Amazon and Original minis are readily copied. In the image above the fake is on the right, it’s obviously taller, with a longer body, and the joints are not as solid. Often the small screw that sits on the top right side of the body does not have a clean slot, only a shallow line.

The other main thing that is more readily seen when shopping online is that the box seams are sticky taped. If the seller has put an image showing you the box, if you see sticky tape DO NOT BUY!!!

The other main fakes are the company collaboration set that includes Pepsi, Tamiya, Calbee and Ja Ehime. There is also a set of coloured Danboards mostly sold on eBay that are fakes. Here’s an example of the yellow fake.

There are real Danboards that are coloured but they are usually have clear markings. The only coloured Danboard that has no markings and is coloured is the pink Sakura Lottery Version seen below.

If the supplier can provide you with correct barcode/JAN code that is the best way to discover whether they are fake or not.

Hopefully this has helped you build your collection.

NOTEAll my research comes from the Danbos I have collected and research on the internet, so I acknowledge that my information may be incorrect or I do not have all the details. Any information you can help me out with is appreciated.
